As for the repeaters, this is one reason many D-Star systems outside the US are built with open source software and modified commercial transceiver hardware the interesting. Theres been a lot of work on making radios like this more accessible and more open, like all the work on OpenGD77, and MD380tools, but without open software from the OEM, this is a.

Designing all this in a package that fits without doubling the size or power requirement of a radio. This AMBE codec is the mouth and ears of the whole network, and hams are more or less stuck using this custom, closed piece of hardware. At the time these protocols were designed, AMBE was the only choice, but luckily, there is an excellent modern vocoder that is fully open - Codec2, by David Rowe. The proposed solution has been to replace this with an open source codec. It's since been compounded by DMR, Yaesu Fusion, and other digital radios.

I am no guru - so if things have changed, someone is free to correct me. Code for error correction, noise cancel, echo suppress doesnt exist for open-source for low power, low-speed embedded applications. The AMBE vocoder (speech coder) problem started when D-Star was developed and introduced to ham radio in the late 90's early 2000's. I don't use XLX but this is what I remember with a little help from Toshen's website amateur Radio Notes - the XLX notes are here: To change modules, say module K, make a second private call to 64011 - 6 prefix -4 is for module change - 011 is Module K (modules go in order from 001 to 026 - disconnect modules would be 64000 your radio should now speak 'Connected to XLX 307 K' (radio should speak to you something like 'connected to XLX 307 D' D seems to be a default - to disconnect a reflector use 68000

Make a private call to 68307 - 6 prefix - 8 is reflectors - 307 is the reflector itself. Make sure you have a GroupCall contact 6 in your DMR radio (this is for the gateway to XLX reflectors - Talk here) Last I knew that is the ONE crossover that can't be done.ĭSTar is not open source so as far as I know, it can't be doneĭMRby use of the DMR Gateway can use XLX REflectors, but Unless 001-C is tied into an XLX reflector, no go there eitherįor XLX reflectors your Talkgroups prefix the number with a 6 like this:
